All dressed up with nowhere to go.

Ok, just in case a few ppl noticed that i'm posting a bit less and not commenting on your blogs anymore, its because school is back in full swing. And between a full-time job, a heavy course load which includes lots of homework, being an active blogger has gotten a lot harder for me to pull off, so forgive me. I'm debating quitting blogging but this is a fun creative outlet for me,so we'll see what happens.In the mean time,i'm gonna try something new. I'm disabling my comments for a while, so no one feels obligated to comment as i won't be able to comment back like i usually do. But if there's anything u want me to know, drop me a line thru my email because i reply emails for sure.

Ok, welcome back. When i cut the dress, i saved the scraps because i REALLY LOVE the fabric. I reworked it into a kinda cropped top. Thankfully, no sewing was involved in the reworking. Problem is, i have no idea where i'll be wearing this outfit...maybe tonight when i meet up with some friends. Problem solved. TGIF!!

Spring Break Day 1- Lazy Girl's Guide To Jewelry Making

I'm officially on spring break and i wish i could be playing on the sandy beaches of a beautiful tropical island like Barbados. Or strolling thru the streets of Paris, exploring the foods and then hunting for treasures at some famous street markets. Or maybe exploring the italian countryside by visiting a charming italian village that steals my heart from the moment of my arrival. Or even returning home to my native country of Nigeria for a very, very,very short visit by our standards since i only have a week off for spring break ( its usually upwards of 3wks of stay when returning home after being away for a long period of time).
Instead, i will be at home. Since I have not been gifted with the opportunity to do any of the afore mentioned things, i will spend my spring break, catching up on lost sleep, side projects and exploring Georgia.
No outfit pic today, because i plan on studying all day. In my pajamas...not much excitement and definitely not picture worthy. So instead, i'm sharing a project i did this morning. It should be included in the Lazy Girl's Guide To Jewelry Making Because it takes all of 2 minutes to make.

For those interested:
Materials:
*Glasses cords/string (i got mine @ cvs, but i think they can be found at all corner drugstores next to the glasses)
*Thick Chain Link (its actually a purse handle and i got it a craft supply store ie: Michaels, Joanna, etc)
Procedure:
Step 1: Attach one end of the link to one end of your cord.
Step 2: Repeat step one to the remaining unattached ends of link and cord.
And boom!!!

DIY : Making a Bib Necklace

I wanted a necklace that was bold and different, and since i couldn't find one that matched what i wanted exactly, on a bored Sunday afternoon, i decided to make one. So, i went to Joann's and Walmart where i picked up these materials:

~Sateen Fabric
~Black Satin Ribbon
~Rhinestones
~Fabric Glue

The Process:

~I think it would be good to have a general idea of a pattern that you want to use. I wanted the rounded square shape i saw that my paper clip holder had.
~Then i traced the shape of the design (using pencil) onto the fabric.


~After i traced the shape, i proceeded to cut out the design. Then i cut out the length of ribbon that i wanted to use as the straps/closure for my necklace and glued it onto the neckpiece.
~I let the ribbon dry for 5 minutes.
~Then i arranged the rhinestones in the pattern that i intended to glue it on, allowing me to see what the final product would look like. Afterwhich, i attached the rhinestones, and allowed it to dry.
~This is how it turned out...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------* Being that i am a total newbie @ working w/ fabrics, i did not know until after i'd finished my project that i should have used fabric stiffener . That would have made the neckpiece less flimsy and a lot sturdier.

* The edges of my necklace show fraying and i've just embraced the fraying as part of the design. I do plan on returning to Joann's and speaking w/ some of the fabric specialists to see if they have cloth that will be less likely to fray, or if there's something i can do to make the fraying less or prevent it in future projects.

*If anyone has any suggestions or tips or ideas that may work better, please feel free to do so.
