Making Peace with Magenta

When i was a little girl in Nigeria, my parents, wanting me to have the best opportunities available to me when i grew up, sent me to a private school. I will save the stories from my elementary school days for another day.

However, what i will tell is that i had to wear what i thought was the most visually appalling uniform. The uniform was made up of an intensely magenta-colored button-down shirt and a reddish burgundy pinafore. The funny thing is that boys and girls alike had to wear these colors, except that boys had to wear shorts instead of a pinafore. I imagine that if i told my 8-year old brother that he had to wear a bright pink shirt to school, he would probably run away.

Anyway, after i arrived in the States and started going to a public school, i made a note to myself to steer clear of the reddish pink color. And i stuck to it for a while.... then look what happened to my legs today. But worry not, I think i finally made made peace with the color after all these years, and i think it turned out quite well.

Word of Caution: For those daredevils out there who will try to imagine those 2 colors together, be careful, you may damage your eyes. However, if i am able to locate any pictures of myself in my old school gear, i will be sure to post them :-D

This is what i wore:
Blazer (Thrifted)
Shirt (actually a silk jumsuit from f21)
Skirt (F21)
Tights (Target)
Shoes (Bakers)
Bag( Rampage)

Isn't it interesting how colors bring back memories almost as strong as scents or visual stimuli? Like there's a certain shade of gray the sky turns sometimes that reminds me of a favorite childhood dress I had....

But those tights look adorable on you, so I'm glad you made your peace with that color :D

I just bought tights that colour! I'm planning on mixing them with a bright-coloured dress I bought.

I love the story...I can't even imagine how ugly that uniform was!

Haha I'm the same - I still can't bring myself to wear forest green because it's the colour my school uniform was. I think you pull the magenta tights off very well though!

I LOVE your tuxedo blazer, and those shoes are killer.

Gorgeous as usual :)

you look terrific honey.loving that pink on you! also love the account of the school uniform.there are some intensely weird uniform color combos back home.In Ghana most of the schools(public ones)wear khaki coloured shirts and brown pinafores/shorts/skirts.Hate that uniform so much!
of course the private schools have their own colour combos and uniforms.

I love the tights! Zimbabwe had some really weird colour combinations in school uniforms as well. Like House of Style said, khaki was really common ... my worst one was the Convent, which made us wear navy and beige, so gross.

I love the tights! But I'm fond of magenta. Your uniform sounds sooo much better than the one I had to wear in Sri Lanka: it was all-white with a collar and pleated skirt. Probably because it's so hot and humid there. The boys had to wear all white too.
